☕COFFEE KLATSCH: Grace, Suzie, Val, Jo, Donna, Ricky, Dianna, Avis, Michelle, Joan, Muriel, Bonnie, Jan, Romaine, Andrea, Ella, and I were all gathered together at the community room. The atmosphere was lively with overlapping discussions all around us. It was difficult to follow any one conversation thread at times. However, one particular discussion caught my attention as it was about frozen meat. Romaine had recently donated a large amount of meat to the in-house food pantry before moving from the apartments. However, to some surprise, the meat had disappeared overnight. Some were upset by this and saw it as an abuse of the system. But for me and a few others, we saw it as the system working. The meat was donated with no strings attached and it was being put to good use by someone who needed it. In my opinion, this is how the system should work - helping those in need without judgment or restrictions. Everyone has their own perspective on this situation and it sparked a lively debate among us. Despite the differing opinions, it was heartwarming to see that people in our community were coming together to support each other in times of need.

HEARING AID: My hearing aids have tiny filters on the end of the tubes that go in the ears. They need to be periodically replaced because they become clogged with east wax. I carry filters and a device for removing and replacing them. It requires removing the domes. They are made of pliable silicone and are cone-shaped, attached to the end of the hearing aid tube, and placed inside the ear canal. In the process of changing filters this morning I noticed how damaged the domes were. I drove to the hearing aid store in Georgetown and purchased more filters and domes.
GAS & WASH: On my way home from the hearing aid office, I noticed that the display on my car's dashboard had changed from reading "FUEL RANGE 50MI" to "LOW FUEL". Taking this as a warning, I decided to stop at H.E.B. to fill up my gas tank and also get a car wash. I had previously purchased some ceramic car polish which required a clean, dry, and cool surface for application. The first two requirements seemed manageable, but finding a space out of direct sunlight proved to be more challenging, especially since I live in an apartment. It looks like I may have to wait until the next time I dog and house sit for my son, as his driveway offers some shade at different times of the day. It's frustrating to have to delay the task, but ensuring that the polish is applied correctly is important for maintaining the appearance of my car. Plus, it gives me something to look forward to during my next visit to my son's place.
🌡️ WEATHER: The morning was hot and sunny, with temperatures reaching a high of 93°. As the day progressed, some clouds rolled in, creating a partly cloudy sky. Hazy conditions were also present throughout the day, making for a warm and muggy atmosphere. With south winds blowing at 10 to 15 mph, it was important to stay hydrated and protected from the sun. As night fell, the temperature cooled down to around 75°, and the sky remained partly cloudy with hazy conditions still lingering. The south winds continued at a similar speed but shifted to a southwest direction after midnight. It was advised to keep windows closed and use fans or air conditioning to stay comfortable during the night. Overall, it was a typical summer day with high temperatures and some hazy conditions.
🧑⚕️THERAPIST: Dispute the sign on the building, Ella had no need of visiting an OB/GYN. The physical therapist was located in the same building. Coincidentally, this building also housed our neurologist's office. Our urologist as well as our cardiologists are also in the same medical complex, it is truly a matter of convenience for Ella to have her physical therapy and neurological appointments in the same location. It is reassuring to know that there were trusted medical professionals available in the same complex should she ever need them. As she made her way to her physical therapy session, Ella couldn't help but appreciate the convenience and accessibility of having multiple specialists in the same area. It makes managing our health needs much easier and more efficient..
CANASTA: There were five of us playing cards tonight. Cindy, Ann, Ella, Jo, and I. I took my leave after the first hand. It lasted nearly an hour and a half which was at least forty-five minutes too long for me. Different expectations. I came to play cards and at least three at the table came to socialize. I was the odd one so I left.

☕CROSS TRACKS CHURCH CAFÉ: Sunday mornings begin with my bride and I arriving at Cross Tracks Church shortly before eight o'clock. Ella begins making coffee and setting up the coffee bar.
While Ella made coffee I turned on lights, set up the tables and chairs, and unlocked doors. Today the chairs were already down off of the tables where they had been placed for vacuuming the carpet.
📖SUNDAY SCHOOL: We began a new study by A.J. Levine “The Difficult Words of Jesus”.
💒WORSHIP: Scripture: Mark 14: 3-9. Sermon “Risking Hope” by Pastor Brad
🌡️WEATHER: Day 95° Partly cloudy in the morning then clearing. Hazy in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 90s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.
Night 75° Mostly clear in the evening then becoming partly cloudy. Hazy. Lows in the mid 70s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.
🏥HEALTH: Heart 80 bpm, Blood Pressure 125/70, Oxygen 99%, Stopped breathing 1.9 per hour, Sleep 10:40 P.M. to 06:30 A.M., Total 07h 50m, Deep 04h 13m, Light 03h 37m, weight 267.1, 1903 Steps
📖VERSE: Mark 10:17-27 As Jesus was walking down a road, a man ran up to him. He knelt down, and asked, "Good teacher, what can I do to have eternal life?" Jesus replied, “Why do you call me good? Only God is good. You know the commandments. 'Do not murder. Be faithful in marriage. Do not steal. Do not tell lies about others. Do not cheat. Respect your father and mother.' " The man answered, "Teacher, I have obeyed all these commandments since I was a young man.” Jesus looked closely at the man. He liked him and said, “There's one thing you still need to do. Go sell everything you own. Give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then come with me." When the man heard Jesus say this, he went away gloomy and sad because he was very rich. Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “It's hard for rich people to get into God's kingdom!" The disciples were shocked to hear this. So Jesus told them again, “It's terribly hard to get into God's kingdom! In fact, it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into God's kingdom." Jesus' disciples were even more amazed. They asked each other, “How can anyone ever be saved?" Jesus looked at them and said, "There are some things that people cannot do but God can do anything.”
🗣️ COMMENT: To me this is a very interesting interaction between Jesus and an unnamed person. The story is told in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. In Mark he is identified as “rich”. In Matthew he is “young” and a “ruler” in Luke. Notice that, unlike the scribes and Pharisees who came asking questions of Jesus, he appears to be sincere in his question. It's not a “trick” to trap Jesus.
“What can I do to have eternal life?"
Jesus tells him to keep the commandments. To which the man asks, “Which ones?”
Isn't that interesting?
As a refresher here is a simplified list.
No gods before me.
Don't take God’s name in vain.
Keep the LORD’s Day holy
Honor your father and mother.
Don't kill.
Don't commit adultery.
Don't steal.
Don't bear false witness
Don't covet your neighbor’s wife.
Don't covet your neighbor’s stuff
Jesus gives a simplified list of the laws that deal with people. 'Do not murder. Be faithful in marriage. Do not steal. Do not tell lies about others. Do not cheat. Respect your father and mother.'
He claimed to have kept those laws. Jesus could have said, “‘Ata boy! Keep up the good work!” and sent him on his way. But he didn't. No, Jesus saw a problem. The very first commandment “no gods before me.” Nothing in our lives is to be more important than our relationship with God. For this person it was his wealth that was more important. Jesus saw what was his barrier to being totally committed to God's purpose for his life, money and possessions.
Jesus gave him a two part solution, 1. free himself from being controlled by his wealth. And 2. follow Jesus.
What about you? What in your life could be keeping you from following Jesus? Jesus asked no more from this man than he asked of the other disciples. “Follow me.” It is the same thing Jesus asks of all his followers.

☕COFFEE KLATSCH: Muriel, Donna, Ricky, Sandy, Fran, Dianna, Avis, Michelle, Joan, Grace, Suzie, Val, Linda, Tom, and Ella gathered together at the community room for coffee and conversation. As we caught up on each other's lives and shared stories, the table was filled with lively chatter and laughter. Ella had brought a delicious sweet treat that she had baked that morning, which everyone eagerly indulged in. Someone else had also brought a plate of refreshing watermelon slices to share. However, with so many conversations happening at once, it was hard for me to follow any of them. The room was filled with the sound of overlapping voices. As I sat there trying to make sense of all the chatter around me, I appreciated the simple yet meaningful moments shared among friends..

🍽️LUNCH: We had ham steak, mashed potatoes, tomatoes and some ugly-but-tasty asparagus for lunch.
🌡️WEATHER: The daytime weather forecast is partly cloudy in the morning but will gradually become mostly sunny. The high temperature for the day is expected to reach the mid 90s, making it a hot and humid day. South winds of 5 to 10 mph will provide some relief from the heat. As the day progresses, the sky will clear up and make way for a beautiful evening with temperatures dropping to 76°. However, the night will remain warm with lows in the mid 70s. South winds of 5 to 10 mph will continue, creating a mild breeze. It will be a pleasant night to be outside and enjoy the partly cloudy sky. Overall, it looks like it will be a typical summer day with hot temperatures and some cloud cover.
🅾️NOTHING: This was a nothing sort of day. We did absolutely nothing - and made it last all day.

📖VERSE: Luke 9:51-56 51 As the time approached for him [Jesus] to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them[b]?” 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them. 56 Then he and his disciples went to another village.
🗣️ COMMENTARY: This passage captures a pivotal moment in the life of Jesus as he embarks on his final journey to Jerusalem. The tone is somber and foreboding as Jesus fully knows the suffering and sacrifice that await him. Despite his disciples hailing him as the Messiah, they struggle to comprehend the gravity of the situation. However, Jesus remains steadfast in his decision to go to Jerusalem, paying little attention to the rejection he faces from the Samaritans along the way. The disciples' impulsive reaction and suggestion of using fire to destroy the villagers reveal their lack of understanding and misguided interpretation of Jesus' mission. The mention of Elijah's use of fire adds depth and context to the passage, emphasizing Jesus' determination to fulfill his destiny despite facing rejection and misunderstanding. This passage serves as a poignant reminder of Jesus' unwavering faith and resolve, as well as the obstacles he encounters on his journey towards the end.

FAMILY: This evening my oldest daughter, Amber, was in town for a few days for her job. Since we see her only once or twice a year the whole family including in-laws and outlaws (exes), plus a “maybe someday” all gathered for burgers and brats at Adam's.

Night 75° Mostly clear. Lows in the lower 70s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
🏥HEALTH: Heart 82 bpm, Blood Pressure 119/75, Oxygen 95%, Stopped breathing 4.0 per hour, Sleep 10:10 P.M. to 08:20A.M., Total 10h 10m, Deep 06h 00m, Light 04h 10m, weight 267.1, 1797 Steps.
📖VERSE: Galatians 4:1-7 Children who are under age are no better off than slaves, even though everything their parents own will someday be theirs. This is because children are placed in the care of guardians and teachers until the time their parents have set. This is how it was with us. We were like children ruled by the powers of this world.
But when the time was right, God sent his Son, and a woman gave birth to him. His Son obeyed the Law, so he could set us free from the Law, and we could become God's children. Now that we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts. And his Spirit tells us that God is our Father. You are no longer slaves. You are God's children, and you will be given what he has promised. - CEV Contemporary English Version
🗣️ COMMENT: The constant questioning of whether one is truly saved and if our good deeds will be recognized by God on the Day of Judgment stem from the Old Testament Law, which demands perfection but offers no grace. This can instill fear and insecurity in us as we strive to do enough to earn salvation. However, the Good News of Jesus offers a different perspective - it proclaims that salvation is a gift from God, not something we can earn through our actions. Jesus has fulfilled all the requirements for our salvation through His death and resurrection, and we are pardoned from our sins through faith in Him. This transforms us into new individuals who can live righteously before God, not out of fear or obligation, but out of gratitude for what He has done for us. This assurance of grace gives us hope and peace, knowing that our salvation is secure in Christ.

VAMPIRE: We went to the lab to have our blood drawn for Doctor Patel. Ella's Physical Therapy will be just across the hall from the lab. Since we were there, she went over to get copies of the paperwork she needs to complete before arriving for therapy on Monday. The lab was quite busy and had only one tech working today. There was a family of six children ahead of us. We were there for about seventy-five minutes. We had not made appointments and were just “walk-ins”. We had our cellphones with which to entertain ourselves while we waited.
BINGO: It's that time of the week again, bingo night at Hills at Leander. Ella, the bingo hostess, has brought a wagon load of prizes to the community room, ready for a fun night of bingo. As she sets out the various bingo cards and accessories on the tables, she powers up a Bluetooth speaker and connects it to her smartphone. With an app on her phone, it can easily and randomly announce the bingo numbers to the players. The anticipation builds as the speaker calls out the numbers in different ways, "B10, B one zero, B and the number ten." Everyone is on the edge of their seats, hoping to be the first to call out "bingo" and win one of the prizes. The atmosphere is buzzing with excitement and camaraderie as players come together for a night of friendly competition. This weekly tradition brings the community closer together, creating a sense of belonging and fostering relationships among neighbors. Bingo night at Hills at Leander is more than just a game; it's an opportunity for connection and fun.

📖VERSE: 2 Timothy 4:1-4
In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly urge you: proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching. For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths.
🗣️COMMENTARY: The mandate to "convince, rebuke, and encourage" outlines the multifaceted approach required in ministry and discipleship. Convincing involves presenting compelling arguments and evidence to persuade others of the truth of the Gospel. Rebuking includes correcting, admonishing, and challenging those who stray from the path of righteousness. Encouraging entails uplifting, supporting, and comforting individuals in their faith journey. All three actions are crucial in guiding and nurturing believers towards spiritual growth.
The emphasis on "the utmost patience in teaching" underscores the importance of endurance and perseverance in imparting knowledge and wisdom. Patience is essential when dealing with individuals at different stages of spiritual maturity, understanding, and responsiveness. It requires a steadfast commitment to consistently teach, guide, and mentor others, even in the face of difficulties, doubts, and setbacks.
The passage concludes with a sobering reflection on human nature: "For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine...and will turn away from listening to the truth." This warning serves as a cautionary reminder of the pervasive tendency towards spiritual apathy, skepticism, and disobedience. It highlights the ongoing challenge of adhering to and spreading the truth in a society increasingly inclined towards worldly desires, false teachings, and moral relativism.

Matthew 5:5 "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. - NRSVUE
🗣️ COMMENTARY: I once heard a joker say, “Of course the men inherit the earth. Nobody else would take it!” Obviously this person was considering meekness to mean weakness. But consider this excerpt by Hope Bolinger an editor at End Game Press, book editor for hire, and the author of almost 30 books.
“Christians can often misinterpret this along with the “turn the other cheek” verse we find in the same sermon series. Meekness does not mean remaining quiet when we see injustices take place in the world around us or simply sitting back and taking abuse in our families, in our church, and in our world.
Meekness here means a number of things:
1. Non-retaliation: In Jesus’ culture, they operated in an eye-for-eye mindset. If someone were to wrong you, you’d wrong them back. The problem was, retaliation escalated in a never ending cycle. Here, Jesus calls us to diffuse the fire before it grows too dangerous.
2. Thankfulness: We ought to be thankful for the gifts God has given us. A worldly leader wants more and more and is envious of the gifts others have that he cannot possess. A godly leader is content with the gifts God has given him and chooses to honor God with them.
3. Joy: No matter how dire the circumstances, a meek person will find joy in knowing the heavenly Father has a plan for his life.
How do we become meek? We trust God will handle the enemies who spurn us and we exercise gratitude and joy in all circumstances. Revenge belongs to God alone.” hopebolinger.com
I believe those that are truly meek are also truly bold in their steadfastness to their beliefs. That is not weakness. That is strength.

📖VERSE: Daniel 9:4-7 I prayed to the LORD my God and made confession, saying, "Ah, Lord, great and awesome God, keeping covenant and steadfast love with those who love you and keep your commandments, we have sinned and done wrong, acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and ordinances. We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.
"Righteousness is on your side, O Lord, but open shame, as at this day, falls on us, - NRSVUE
🗣️ COMMENTARY: In this prayer Daniel recognizes that the trouble he and his people are experiencing is not punishment from God but the natural consequences of their actions or inactions.
Imagine a father who tells his child to not touch the hot stove but the child does it anyway. It is not the Father's fault that the child suffered. The child was not burned because the father caused it. The child caused it by its disobedience. In the same way our disobedience can cause us harm. God is the answer to our problems not the cause.

☀️*SOLSTICE: The first day of summer arrives with the solstice this year on Friday, June 20, 2025, 10:42 p.m. EDT. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, the Earth tilts mostly toward the Sun during this time. As seen from Earth, the Sun will be directly overhead at noon 23.5 degrees north of the equator, at an imaginary line encircling the globe known as the Tropic of Cancer, named for the constellation Cancer the Crab, its northernmost point.

And the peace of God, whiVch surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 📌TOWN HALL MEETING: I was not aware of a meeting today. Evidently it started at noon. We walked in the door at almost one o'clock. We came in and sat down. However, once I realized that it was all over except the shooting, I left and went home. Here is the crux of the situation as outlined in the email from the office. Important Notice: Temporary Change to Rent Payment Process
Dear Residents, As part of a full system upgrade, we are temporarily transitioning to cashier's checks or money orders only for rent payments. While this change is in effect, personal checks will not be accepted unless specific conditions are met (see below). You can still make your July rent payment using the online payment portal through Friday. After that, the portal will become inactive until the system upgrade is complete. Why This Change Is Necessary:
We are making this shift to prevent any delays in processing payments and to avoid potential NSF (non-sufficient funds) charges that can occur when checks cannot be promptly deposited or processed due to the system transition.
The problem from the tenants’s points of view is the added expense and inconvenience and in some cases the perceived inability to use the required payment methods. From the management team's side of the debate is the fact that our local managers are ordered to comply with the corporation's instructions without deviation. The system upgrade WILL happen and no other payment options will be accepted. Period. End of debate.

📖VERSE: Matthew 5:43-48: "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
🗣️COMMENT: Jesus teaches believers to love everyone, including those who may not be friendly towards them. This is because God's love is perfect and extends to all, regardless of their actions. Christians should strive to show love and kindness to everyone, just as God does. For example, just like how the sun shines on both good and bad people, Christians should show love to all, even those who may not deserve it.

LUNCH: I decided to make a simple yet satisfying dinner. I started by tenderizing and coating a couple of chicken breasts before browning them in a pan. Once they were nicely browned, I transferred them to a slow cooker and poured in some cream of chicken gravy to add flavor and moisture. While the chicken was cooking, I peeled, cubed, boiled, and mashed three potatoes and a carrot to serve as a hearty side dish. However, in the midst of all the cooking, I forgot to fix a green vegetable. Despite this small oversight, I did remember to open a can of sliced peaches for dessert, adding a touch of sweetness to the meal. As the chicken slow cooked in the creamy gravy, its tantalizing aroma filled my home and made my mouth water in anticipation. The end result was a delicious and satisfying meal that left me feeling content and grateful for my simple but fulfilling dinner..

☕Cross Tracks Church Café: Ella was alone at the coffee bar today. And the treats were some frozen cookies, watermelon leftover from last night, and snack chips because no one brought anything.
📚SUNDAY SCHOOL: The end of our journey through the book we have been studying is rapidly approaching, with only one more week left. However, as we reflect on our progress, it becomes apparent that we may not actually finish the book within this timeframe. Despite this, today's class discussion was both meaningful and revealing. We delved into the topic of "us vs them" attitudes and how they have potentially shifted over time. This discourse shed light on the complexities of human nature and how our perceptions of others can evolve. Although we may not have covered the material we had originally planned for today's lesson, the insightful conversation we had was a valuable learning experience in itself. It reminds us that sometimes deviating from the intended path can lead to unexpected and thought-provoking discoveries. As we approach the end of our current study, we can't help but feel grateful for these meaningful discussions that have enriched our understanding of the world around us.
💒WORSHIP: Today at church, Pastor Brad was unfortunately feeling ill and had to miss the service. As a result, we had a music sing instead of a typical sermon. During children's time, there was only one little girl in attendance, so I decided to join her so she wouldn't feel alone. The overall attendance was very low, possibly due to it being Father's Day and many families choosing to spend the day together. Despite the small turnout, it was still a meaningful and uplifting service, reminding us of the importance of coming together as a community even during difficult times. I hope that Pastor Brad will feel better soon, and we can all be reunited for a full congregation next Sunday.

Strong thunderstorms will impact portions of Williamson, northern Travis, northern Blanco, Llano and Burnet Counties through 2:45 PM
At 1:39 PM, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Lott to near Sunnylane to near Sloan.
Movement was south at 35 mph.
HAZARD wind gusts up to 50 mph!
Night 73° Partly cloudy. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Lows in the mid 70s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
🌮LUNCH: We made burritos from the beans and pork leftover from last night and the dessert of leftover apple cobbler.
🍝SUPPER: Heather invited us over for Father's Day. We had spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic bread. We then played several games of Fast Track and one game of Five Crowns.
📰NEWS: The origins of Father's Day: The nation’s first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington. However, it was not until 1972—58 years after President Woodrow Wilson made Mother’s Day official—that the day honoring fathers became a nationwide holiday in the United States.
🏥HEALTH: Heart Rate 70 bpm, Blood Pressure 119/78, Oxygen 99%, Stopped breathing 1.7 per hour, Sleep 11:00 P.M. to 06:30A.M., Total 07h 30m, Deep 04h 15m, Light 03h 15m, 2345 steps
📖VERSE: Romans 8:28 We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. - NRSVUE
🗣️COMMENT: Simply put, the concept of all things working together for good means that every event and circumstance in a believer's life, whether good or bad, can ultimately lead to their spiritual growth and well-being.
For example, consider a person who loses their job unexpectedly. This may initially seem like a negative event, causing stress and financial hardship. However, through this trial, the person may learn to trust in God's provision, develop patience, and seek new opportunities for growth and service. In the end, this experience could lead to a stronger faith, a deeper reliance on God, and a new direction in their career that aligns with God's plan for their life. In this way, even a difficult situation can work together for the believer's ultimate good.

📖VERSE: Philippians 3:17-20 Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us. For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. - NRSVUE
🗣️ COMMENT: Paul's call to imitate him and others who follow Christ highlights the need for humility and discernment in choosing role models. It's not enough to simply follow anyone, but to carefully observe those who demonstrate a life consistent with the gospel. The passage encourages believers to live with an eternal perspective, recognizing that their true home is in heaven and that their actions have eternal consequences. This should motivate them to live lives that are pleasing to God and consistent with their heavenly citizenship.

OVER THE HILL GANG: A group of forty-nine members, gathered for a delicious lunch consisting of Cordon Bleu chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, salads, and various side dishes. The meal was topped off with delectable desserts that satisfied everyone's sweet tooth. After lunch, groups engaged in fun and friendly games including bingo, Scrabble, forty-two, and Five Crowns. As always, Merle entertained everyone with her funny jokes. The day was filled with laughter, good food, and great company, making it a memorable event for the Over the Hill Gang.
🌡️WEATHER: Daytime: On this particular day, the daytime temperatures reached a comfortable eighty degrees, which was four degrees below the predicted high. It was also fourteen degrees cooler than the average temperature for this date. The sky was completely covered with clouds throughout the day, making it a gray and gloomy day. The weather forecast predicted showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the morning. As expected, some areas experienced heavy rainfall due to localized thunderstorms. The wind was blowing from the South at a mild five to ten miles per hour. The rain started pouring around midnight and continued through the morning, causing substantial precipitation that triggered aerial flood alerts. ”Leander, Texas Flood Watch Remains In Effect Through This evening...Locally heavy rainfall could cause flash flooding across portions of South Central Texas. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches with isolated amounts near 6 inches are possible.”
Nightime: The evening forecast for tonight predicts a temperature of 74° with partly cloudy skies that will gradually turn into mostly cloudy conditions. There is a slight possibility of thunderstorms and showers in the evening, making it important to be prepared for any potential weather changes. The low for the night is expected to be in the mid 70s, providing some relief from the heat of the day. A south wind of around 10 mph is also expected to help cool things down. Overall, it looks like a mild and potentially rainy night, so it may be wise to bring an umbrella or rain jacket if venturing outside. However, the temperature remains relatively warm, making it a comfortable evening for any outdoor activities.

📖VERSE: Psalm 19:7-10 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the LORD are sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. - NRSVUE
COMMENT: According to Psalm 19:7-10, the writer praises the perfection of the LORD's law and its ability to revive the soul. They also acknowledge that the decrees of the LORD are dependable and can even make the simplest person wise. The precepts of the LORD are described as righteous and capable of bringing joy to one's heart. The commandment of the LORD is clear and has the power to bring enlightenment. The fear of the LORD is declared to be pure and eternal. The ordinances of the LORD are described as completely true and just. The author continues by stating that these laws and decrees hold more value than gold, known for its wealth, and are sweeter than honey from a honeycomb. This passage highlights the significance and worth of following God's laws, as they can bring wisdom, joy, enlightenment, and everlasting purity into one's life. It also emphasizes that these laws hold more significance than material possessions and can bring a deeper sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. Ultimately, this passage serves as a reminder to seek and obey God's laws for a truly fulfilling and righteous life.
Just like how following a healthy diet and exercise routine can bring physical benefits, following God's laws can bring wisdom, joy, and fulfillment to our lives. It's like choosing nutritious food over junk food - the rewards are worth more than any material possession.

📖VERSE: Psalm 46:9-11 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. "Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations; I am exalted in the earth." The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah - NRSVUE
🗣️COMMENT: In this powerful verse from Psalm 46, the psalmist praises God for his ability to bring peace and end wars throughout the earth. The imagery of breaking bows and shattering spears symbolizes the destruction of weapons and the cessation of violence. As the God of all nations, he is exalted and above all earthly rulers and powers. He calls for stillness and reflection, reminding us to recognize his sovereignty and trust in his protection. The mention of the Lord of hosts, a military term, further emphasizes God's strength and power to protect and defend his people. As the God of Jacob, he is also a personal and intimate refuge for his chosen people. This verse reminds us that even in the midst of chaos and conflict, God is with us as our ultimate source of peace and security. It is a reminder to be still, have faith, and seek refuge in God, who is exalted above all else.

COMMENT: A lot of times we think, “Now that I’m a Christian it’s all up to God.” He’s going to perfect a good-work in me. And, yes, He is working to do it. But we must also “set our hearts and set our minds.”
That means that both our affections and our thoughts are involved in our growth. Our affections – what we really enjoy, really love, and our thoughts. Our heart shapes our passions, our thoughts shape our priorities. They’re both involved and they’re both important. It’s affection (what you really love) plus thoughts (what you really think about all the time) equal action, what you really do. That’s what God’s really interested in: what we think, what our heart’s after and what we do. https://upwards.blog/2021/10/13/supreme-living-colossians-31-10/

🗣️ COMMENT: In the Bible, Jesus urges his followers to enter through the narrow gate, emphasizing that the path to destruction is wide and easy, and many people choose to follow it. This serves as a warning against the temptation of taking the easy way out and making choices that may seem appealing in the moment but ultimately lead to ruin. On the other hand, the narrow gate and difficult road that leads to life may not always seem like an attractive option, but it is the right path to take. This message highlights the importance of staying on the righteous path and not being swayed by what may seem easy or popular. Ultimately, it reminds us that true fulfillment and eternal life can only be found through following the narrow and challenging road that leads to righteousness.

The fact that Garcia is able to re-enter the country to face these allegations shows how immigration is a complex and ever-evolving issue that affects individuals and communities on both sides of the border. • RETALIATION: This Thursday, Russia launched a massive air attack on Ukraine, causing destruction and chaos in several cities including the capital, Kyiv. The attack involved the deployment of 400 drones and the firing of 40 missiles, resulting in the loss of four lives and countless injuries. This aggressive retaliation from Russia was in response to Ukraine's recent attack on Russian warplanes at military bases using long-range drones. The tensions between the two countries have been escalating for months now, and this latest attack has only further heightened the already fragile situation. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, urging both countries to find a peaceful resolution to their conflicts. However, with both sides showing no signs of backing down, it remains unclear how this ongoing conflict will unfold in the coming days. •
👨🎓TATE'S PARTY: This party was well attended by family and friends. However it was 93° that felt like 100° and it was a backyard party.

📖VERSE: 1 Corinthians 15:42-45 So it is with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a physical body; it is raised a spiritual body.
If there is a physical body, there is also a spiritual body. Thus it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
COMMENT: Paul explains the change that occurs between the body before death and the resurrected body in new life. During Paul's time, there was a belief that decay and corruption prevented resurrection of human bodies, leading some to believe that only the spirit would continue after death. However, Paul does not completely contradict this idea. Our mortal bodies are indeed deteriorating and weak. Yet, he clarifies that these are not the bodies that will enter eternity. Instead, there will be a transformation, comparable to how a seed dies to bring forth new life (1 Corinthians 15:37). The seed represents our perishable pre-death bodies, which are temporary and constantly declining towards death. The body that is raised to life is imperishable, unable to die, and both physical and eternal.

📰JUNE 6th NEWS: ROBODELIVERY: According to reports, Amazon is currently teaching humanoid robots to transport packages. These robots will ride in Rivian vans and then exit the vehicle to deliver items directly to people's homes. • MOON CRASH?: Yesterday, it seemed that Resilience, a spacecraft owned by the Japanese company Ispace, was unsuccessful in landing on the moon. This could be their second attempt at softly landing a vehicle in two years. The lander approached its intended target, the Mare Frigoris or Sea of Cold, which is a flat area located at the moon's peak. Unfortunately, mission controllers were unable to make contact during the landing and suspect that the lander may have crashed onto the moon's surface. •
🧺LAUNDRY: Yes, ma'am it was laundry day again. It kept my bride busy with washing, drying, folding, and putting clothes away. It's not that we have so many dirty clothes but Ella separates each load by color and weight which makes more loads. If it were me it would be two loads - light and dark. Which is why I'm not allowed to do the laundry.😁
LUNCH: For lunch, I decided to make a delicious and hearty chicken and vegetable soup. I used canned chicken for convenience but opted for fresh veggies such as celery, carrots, bell peppers, and cabbage to add more flavor and nutrition. I also decided to add the remaining spaghetti squash from a previous meal to give the soup some added texture. Using my trusty Instapot, I combined all the ingredients with some chicken broth, salt, pepper, and dried parsley. After bringing it to a boil, I let it simmer for about half an hour to let all the flavors meld together. When it was time to eat, I was pleased by how tasty and satisfying the soup turned out to be. The combination of the tender chicken, hearty vegetables, and flavorful broth was simply danged delicious!
🌡️WEATHER: Today's weather forecast called for partly cloudy skies in the morning and it was so. Temperatures were to reach the lower 90s throughout the day. And it topped it at ninety-four before two o'clock. Though it felt more like ninety-eight. However, as the day progressed, the skies cleared up and made way for a sunny and warm afternoon. South winds were expected to pick up, reaching speeds of 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. As night fell, temperatures remained in the mid 70s and the skies remained partly cloudy. South winds will continue to blow at around 10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph. This weather pattern is indicative of a typical summer day, with a mix of sun and clouds and warm temperatures. It was advised to stay hydrated and protected from the sun's rays while enjoying outdoor activities during the day, and to dress comfortably for a mild night out. Overall, it looked like a pleasant day with some gusty winds in the mix.
GAME: Ella and I played a game of Five Crowns this afternoon. Ella won.

📖VERSE of the DAY: Ephesians 3:17-19 and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. - NRSVUE
🗣️ COMMENT: In Ephesians 3:17-19, the apostle Paul prays that Christ may dwell in the hearts of the believers through their faith. He encourages them to be deeply rooted and grounded in love, so that they may fully understand and experience the vastness and depth of God's love. Paul believes that this personal experience of God's love is essential for believers to truly know and be filled with the fullness of God. He emphasizes that this knowledge of God's love should not just be theoretical, but should be practically experienced in one's daily life. Paul desires for the believers to be completely filled and flooded with God Himself, allowing for the richest experience of His presence in their lives. This passage highlights the importance of having a personal relationship with Christ and experiencing His love, rather than just having knowledge about it. It serves as a reminder for believers to continuously seek and deepen their understanding and experience of God's endless love.

OVER THE HILL GANG: We had fifty-one people at OTHG today.
WEATHER: Day 91° Partly cloudy in the morning then clearing. Humid with highs in the lower 90s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
Night 75° Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 70s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
HCCM: Today was our monthly food pickup at Hill Country Community Ministries Food Pantry. I'm this extremely rare instance where we can use it all and there was nothing to pass along to the in-house food pantry. We will share some of it tomorrow evening during the weekly Happy Hour potluck. I think I'll make a vehicle stew for it. The pie will also be shared with the group. Half of the pizza was our supper this evening.

CANASTA at OTHG: Unfortunately, Nathern was unable to join us for our weekly game of canasta today as he was busy childsitting his grandson. This meant that Ella and I had to team up and play against Anne and Sandy. We ended up winning both games that were played. My bride and I were disappointed to have missed playing with our friends last week while we were house and dog sitting in Round Rock. It was pleasant to be able to spend time with our friends again in Liberty Hill from ten o'clock in the morning until twelve-fifteen in the afternoon. Although we missed Nathern's presence, it was still a fun and enjoyable morning filled with laughter and friendly competition at the canasta table. We are looking forward to next week's game, where hopefully Nathern can join us once again.

🌡️WEATHER: The day began under a thick blanket of clouds, the air already heavy with humidity. Whispers of morning showers and thunderstorms had danced in the forecast, and indeed, a brief sprinkling had swept through, leaving the streets glistening. By the time the sun climbed higher, pushing the temperature towards a moderate eight degree, the persistent clouds had begun to break. The afternoon offered glimpses of sunshine, though the threat of another quick shower or a rumble of thunder still lingered, a slight chance that kept everyone glancing skyward. A gentle southeast breeze, blowing between five to ten miles per hour, did its best to offer some relief from the mugginess, but it was a humid day through and through.
As evening approached, the clouds once again gathered, creating a mostly overcast sky. The temperature gradually eased, eventually settling around seventy-five degrees. The easterly winds, still a soft five to ten miles per hour, were felt in the earlier part of the night before they shifted, becoming southeasterly as midnight drew near. The world outside grew quieter, the earlier threat of rain having mostly passed, leaving behind a partly cloudy sky as the night deepened.
🏥HEALTH: Heart Rate 65 bpm, Blood Pressure 119/73, Oxygen 99%, Stopped breathing 1.4 per hour, Weight 261.4 lbs., Sleep 11:40 P.M. to 08:00A.M., Total 08h 20m, Deep 05h 40m, Light 02h 40m, 3845 steps, 1.89 miles
I received two new medications in the mail today, Propranolol (for my Essential Tremor: Helps to manage involuntary shaking) and Clotrim/Betameth ointment (for my toenail fungus).
🎶SING-ALONG: A group of us gathered in the community room this evening to sing songs together. We are fortunate enough to have a pianist who played by ear. You can start singing and she will follow along on the piano. We sang for nearly two hours.
📖VERSE: Psalms 23:5-6 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long. - NRSVUE
🗣️COMMENTARY: God who miraculously provided the children of Israel with manna in the wilderness also supplied all of King David's needs. David's unfaltering faith in God aligns with the exhortation in Hebrews 4:16, which encourages believers to confidently approach God's throne for mercy and assistance in times of need. Just as we cannot help ourselves to food in someone else's home, David relied on God to provide and set his table. This phrase, "You prepare a table before me," emphasizes David's reliance on God. Like a gracious host, God welcomes His guests to a lavish feast already prepared and set out on the table. Similar to David, we trust in God for our physical and material needs, seek His guidance and wisdom, find peace through prayer, and most importantly, depend on Him for our salvation.

🌡️WEATHER: The weather forecast for today is expected to be mostly cloudy in the morning followed by partial cloudiness in the afternoon. There is also a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, with temperatures reaching a high of 93°. (We had a passing rain shower prior to eleven o'clock.) South winds are predicted to be between 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. The chance of rain is only 20 percent, so it is possible that the day will remain dry. (Dry didn't happen.) In the evening, temperatures are expected to drop to 76° with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. As the night progresses, there is a higher chance (40 percent) of showers and thunderstorms, with south winds continuing at 10 to 15 mph. Overall, today's weather seems to be a mix of cloudiness and potential rain, with temperatures reaching a high of 90° and lows dropping to the lower 70s overnight. 💐FLOWERS EVERYWHERE: At the apartments, there are a few talented folks who have come together to create beautiful paper flowers that now adorn the Community Room. Their dedication and creativity have transformed the once plain room into a bright and lively space. These handcrafted flowers, made with love and care, add a touch of warmth and charm to the community. Their hard work and passion for creating something beautiful is evident in every petal of the paper flowers. The residents of the apartments are grateful for these ladies' efforts and admire their talent every time they enter the Community Room.
BREAKFAST: I think Ella cooked an egg for her breakfast. I wasn't hungry so I didn't eat. That may have been a mistake. I took my morning handful of pills with a glass of water. Some of them have directions to take with food. This afternoon I had several bouts of diarrhea. Perhaps if I had food in my stomach when taking those pills I could have avoided those trips to the bathroom.

🍞 FOOD PANTRY: Ella has a unique habit of collecting and storing cardboard boxes in our apartment. However, she does not do it for her own personal gain or out of hoarding tendencies. Instead, she gathers these boxes for a greater cause - to be taken to the food pantry for reuse. This morning, we loaded the backseat of our car with boxes and headed to the food pantry. As we arrived, I was struck by the number of people in line, highlighting the great need in our community. As I unloaded the cargo, Ella went to stand in line to get into the Community Cupboard.
She returned with a loaf of bread that we needed and also surprised me with four very ripe bananas. However, what caught my attention was the four turnovers she had in her hand, which I suspect are for our coffee klatch tomorrow. It's heartwarming to see how Ella's small act of collecting and reusing cardboard boxes can make a positive impact on our community by providing much-needed resources and bringing joy to our coffee group. It's a reminder that even the simplest of actions can make a difference. It is also one of the many things I admire about my bride.
🛍️GROCERIES: We had a few things that we need and a few more that we just wanted. I placed an order for them to be delivered this evening.
🍝LUNCH: I halved a spaghetti squash and removed the seeds. Then I pressure cooked it for twenty-five minutes. Once it was fully cooked I removed it from the pot. Carefully so as not to burn myself I used a fork to separate the strands of squash. We had a small jar of marinara sauce. I didn't bother heating it before pouring it over the streaming squash. A little Parmesan cheese and a dash of salt and lunch was ready. For dessert Ella opened a can of diced pears.
🌡️WEATHER: The day started off with the sun rising high, quickly pushing the thermometer to a sweltering ninety-three degrees. Although there were a few clouds scattered in the morning sky, they soon dissipated, leaving behind an unobstructed expanse of blue. There was a more or less steady south wind blowing at ten to fifteen miles per hour. As evening approached, the temperature began to cool down, settling into a pleasant seventy-four degree night. The clouds that had cleared earlier in the day started to gather once again, creating a partly cloudy sky. However, as the night went on, the cloud cover thickened, becoming mostly cloudy. Despite this change in weather, the southerly winds persisted at 10 to 15 mph, occasionally picking up in gusts of up to 25 mph, adding a sense of liveliness to the night air. Overall, it was a day filled with soaring temperatures, shifting cloud cover, and steady winds that ultimately led to a comfortable and mild evening.
GAMES: Five of us played Canasta this evening. We started at five o'clock. When eight o'clock came we declared Jo the winner because she was closest to the five thousand points needed to win and we were just done.

🍳BREAKFAST: A normal breakfast of sausage, eggs, and toast.
🥪LUNCH: I reheated the rice and mushroom fish from earlier this week. I added some copied ham and a splash of vegetable broth to change the flavor profile.
🧺LAUNDRY: Ella brought the dry dark clothes to the bed and I began folding and rolling the socks, underwater, and T-shirts that go back into my to-go bag. While I'm doing that Ella begins washing the white clothes, sheets, and pillow cases. Once they were washed and dried I put the sheets and duvet in the bed and the pillows into their cases
🧳PACKING: When preparing for a trip, I have found that rolling my clothes tightly and securing them with either painters tape or a thin double-sided Velcro tote has been the most efficient way to pack. Along with our clothes, we also make sure to pack our CPAP machines and electronics. To keep everything organized, we place all of our bags near the front door until we have our dog, Truck, corralled in the backyard. It's important to make sure he doesn't run out the front door without a leash and a strong hand on the other end. Once he is safely in the backyard, we begin carrying our belongings to the car. The only items we leave out are the food items, which we pack last to ensure they stay fresh and don't get squished in the process. This packing method has proven to be efficient and stress-free, allowing us to easily load everything into the car before hitting the road for our adventure..
🌡️ WEATHER: National Severe Storm Outlook: There is a slight risk ofis a slight risk of is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms for portions of central into eastern Texas.
Scattered large hail and isolated damaging winds remain possible this afternoon and evening across central and east Texas.
Imagine waking up to a beautiful summer day filled with warm sunshine and a whisper of danger. The forecast predicts a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms which adds a touch of the unknown. Predicted high temperatures in the mid 90s. I'm not a fan of 95° days
As the day progressed, I could feel the heat on my skin as I carried stuff to our car. As I carried stuff from the car to the apartment I could feel the heat even more. Once we were back home in our apartment I dropped the inside temperature to 75°.
As the night fell, the sky cleared and the temperature dropped into the 80s, creating a picturesque summer evening with no sign of a storm
