NEWS: 1. AOL, known for its dial-up internet service, is shutting down after 35 years. Dial-up used a modem to connect to the internet through phone lines. It was popular in the 90s but became outdated with the rise of faster broadband internet. Despite this, a small number of Americans still used AOL in 2023 for email and other services.
2. ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot, has added parental controls to protect teenagers using the service. Parents can now limit how their child uses the chatbot, receive alerts if their child is in distress, and set time restrictions. This comes after a lawsuit was filed against OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, following the death of a teenager who allegedly used the chatbot in a harmful way.
3. Gaza Peace? After Netanyahu supported the U.S. peace plan for Gaza, Hamas must decide whether to accept it. The deal requires Hamas to give up its weapons in exchange for peace, aid, and reconstruction in Gaza. However, if Hamas rejects the deal, Israel could intensify its attacks on Gaza.
4. Morality Police. The Taliban in Afghanistan have cut off internet service across the country to control what people can access online. They have also disrupted phone services. 5. Local News. Initially, Leande Independent School District contemplated the closure of Cypress, Faubion, and Steiner Ranch elementary schools due to financial strain and low student enrollment. However, after considering various factors, the district has advised that these three schools remain operational for the upcoming academic year. A final determination will be reached on September 30, 2025, following a public consultation. The proposed closures were a part of a larger plan to effectively manage resources and maximize facility usage.

VERSE: Jeremiah 32: 17-19 “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the parents’ sins into the laps of their children after them. Great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord Almighty, great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds. Your eyes are open to the ways of all mankind; you reward each person according to their conduct and as their deeds deserve.
COMMENTARY: God is in charge of not just significant moments in human history, but also the lives of each person. He carefully creates us in our mothers' wombs and determines if we will journey or remain at home. Choices made by evil individuals can not escape his control. However, he also utilizes his strength to redeem sinners and grant them a fresh start. Our salvation is solely a result of God's power, not our own actions. We have faith in Jesus because he has chosen us for eternal life and has opened our hearts to believe.

REHAB: Ella just plain crushing her rehab. She's walking, talking, rowing and pedaling on the exercise machines.
I left a message for the facility administrator that I wanted to talk to him about releasing Ella to come home.
Much later, Ella called to say that she had talked to the administrator who had talked to the doctor and the therapist. She is coming home tomorrow.
WEATHER:
NEWS: 1. President Trump has ordered the Pentagon to send US troops to Portland, Oregon to deal with protests outside an ICE facility. The troops are meant to protect the facility from violence by protesters. Oregon's governor does not believe federal assistance is necessary. Trump has already sent National Guard troops to other cities to help with protests. For example, he sent 150 troops to Memphis this week.
2. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have developed a method to customize the movement of biological robots by manipulating their structure thus creating tiny robots using human lung cells that can be controlled to move in a specific way. These robots, called AggreBots, could potentially travel through the body to deliver medicine or perform other tasks.
Typically, biobots rely on muscle fibers for movement, mimicking how real muscles work. However, an innovative approach involves using cilia, small hair-like structures found in the body that propel fluids and help organisms like Paramecium swim. The challenge lies in controlling the shape and structure of these cilia-powered biobots, known as CiliaBots, to precisely control their movement.
CANASTA: I took the cards too the community room and shuffled them repeatedly while waiting for other players to arrive. I waited about twenty minutes and no one came. So, I packed up the cards and came home. Anybody else remember this? “Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, i guess i m gonna eat some worms… short fat slimey ones, long thin curly ones, see how they wiggle and squirm
So bite off their heads and bite off their tails and throw their skins away how on earth can anybody live on a thousand worms a day?
Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, Guess I’ll go eat worms, Long, thin, slimy ones; Short, fat, juicy ones, Itsy, bitsy, fuzzy wuzzy worms.
Down goes the first one, down goes the second one, Oh how they wiggle and squirm. Up comes the first one, up comes the second one, Oh how they wiggle and squirm.”

VERSE: Proverbs 27:1, "Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring,"
COMMENTARY: The Bible teaches us to be humble and not boast about the future, as we cannot control it and it is uncertain. Boasting about tomorrow shows a lack of humility and a reliance on our own abilities instead of trusting in God. Our lives are short and we cannot predict what will happen tomorrow. Therefore, it is important to be humble and trust in God's plan.

WEATHER:
REHAB: The clock on the wall read just quarter before nine in the morning as I stepped into Sagebrook rehabilitation facility. I'd made good time, arriving precisely when I hoped to. My mission for the morning was to bring a little bit of home to this hospital-like environment.
"Ready for church?" I asked as I found the service on Facebook. I then set up the phone on the table so that we could watch together.
Ella said, “I thought you were going to attend church today.”
I replied, “I'm attending with you today.”
We settled in together to watch Cross Track's church online, finding a moment of familiar peace and worship in the quiet room.
After the service, we switched gears entirely, the spiritual contemplation giving way to competitive fun. We played a game Fast Track—and talked about everything and nothing. The visit was going well until a wave of exhaustion clearly washed over her. "I think I need to lay down for a bit," she admitted, her voice already sounding heavy. Knowing the importance of rest in recovery, I gathered my things.
"I'll see you later," I promised, leaving her to the peace of an afternoon nap.
I went home and prepared myself something to eat. After lunch I loaded and started the dishwasher. Then I lay on the bed to recharge my phone and watch some YouTube.
The afternoon sun was halfway to the horizon when I returned to Ella. I found her tucked into bed, a sight that initially concerned me.
"Everything alright?" I asked. A small, proud smile answered me. "I'm just tired! I was a busy bee. I went down to the exercise area and did my walk." It turned out she'd managed the walk down the hall using only a cane, a significant victory. But the effort was clearly too much for the return journey. She welcomed a ride back in a wheelchair. Even so, the accomplishment was all that mattered.
To wind down the day, we pulled out her favorite—Fast Track. The game demanded concentration and a sharp eye, and her competitive spirit was clearly still intact. We played several games, and despite the exhaustion from her big walk, she was a force to be reckoned with. She won every single one, much to my chagrin.
The clatter of the dinner cart in the hallway signaled the end of my second visit. "I'm going to head out before your food gets here," I said, giving her a hug and kisses.
Before bedtime I called to tell her goodnight and let her know how much I miss having her here with me.
HEALTH: Heart Rate 71 bpm, BP 109/76, 98% Oxy, Sleep 10:50 PM to 07:16 AM, 07h 47m Total, REM 00h 30m, Deep 03h 01m, Light 04h 16m, Awake 00h 39m, 96% of Goal, Events/hr 1.0, Weight 282 lb, Steps 2750.
VERSE: Genesis 3: 1-7 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other wild animal that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God say, ‘You shall not eat
from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in
the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden, nor shall you touch it, or you shall die.’ ” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not die, for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be
opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they
knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.

I know it doesn't look like “proof of life” but I swear she's just asleep.
See … I told you!
COFFEE KLATSCH: Dianna, Michelle, Avis, Suzie, Brenda, and I were at coffee this morning. Discussion was about ants and the beginning of cricket season.
REHAB: There's no doubt that her mind is working. She beat me three out of four games of Fast Track.
HARD MONTH: This hasn't been a very good month for us. On the 9th Ella had a shoulder replacement surgery. She spent most of the next three days in bed at home. On Friday the 12th I had a chemical stress test. Jenny took me to the hospital and Leigha brought me home. The next morning Ella was behaving strangely. She had a blank look and a slack jaw as though her mind had shut down. I called 911 and she was taken to the hospital where she stayed until the following Saturday the 20th. Other than a high temperature they could find nothing wrong with her. Once the fever was gone Ella was moved to a rehabilitation facility on Saturday to get her strength back. It has now been a full week of rehab and I don't know when they're going to allow her to come home. I visit her for hours at a time and call her often. I really miss having her here with me.
THE PLUS SIDE: Yes, there is an upside. All of the local kids; Arik, Jenny, Adam, Leigha, and Heather have been to visit her at the hospital. John, Dawn, Linnea, Rob, and Brandon also made the long trip from Iowa to see her. I had to reassure her that we aren't hiding anything from her and that she isn't dying. When everybody showed up she was concerned.
HER LUNCH: Sausages, black-eye peas, squash, cornbread, pudding, and tea. Sure ‘nuff we're in the south.

NEWS: 1. The United Nations is imposing sanctions on Iran for allegedly violating a nuclear agreement. Recent satellite images suggest Iran conducted a secret missile test, potentially testing a long-range missile. This comes after Iran was accused of enriching uranium and repairing missile sites after they were attacked by Israel. This has led to the UN reimposing sanctions on Iran.
2. The gunman who attacked the NFL headquarters had a brain disease called CTE. This disease is caused by repeated head injuries and can lead to memory loss, confusion, and aggression. It is often seen in football players and can only be confirmed after death.
3. The Supreme Court blocked a request of a lower court that would have required the Trump administration to spend over $4 billion in foreign aid. This was to prevent harm to Trump's foreign policy. Some justices disagreed, wanting more discussion on the matter.

VERSE: Romans 12:6-8 CEB
We have different gifts that are consistent with God’s grace that has been given to us. If your gift is prophecy, you should prophesy in proportion to your faith. If your gift is service, devote yourself to serving. If your gift is teaching, devote yourself to teaching. If your gift is encouragement, devote yourself to encouraging. The one giving should do it with no strings attached. The leader should lead with passion. The one showing mercy should be cheerful.

COMMENT: We should identify and diligently use our God-given spiritual gifts for the benefit of the entire body of Christ, emphasizing that each individual's unique ability serves a crucial function, such as prophesying, serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, leading, or showing mercy. The main idea is that God distributes different gifts through the Holy Spirit, and believers must use them in proportion to the faith they have, working together in humility to build up each other and glorify God.

1. Former FBI Director James Comey was charged with lying to Congress and obstructing justice. He allegedly lied about authorizing an FBI source to leak information to the media and obstructed a Senate proceeding. If convicted, Comey could face up to five years in prison. The indictment was pushed by a prosecutor appointed by President Trump, who Comey has criticized for politicizing the Justice Department.
2. Amazon reached a $2.5B settlement with the FTC for enrolling customers in Prime without consent. The company will pay a $1B penalty and refund $1.5B to affected consumers. Despite this, Amazon's market value remains largely unaffected. The FTC claims Amazon made it difficult for customers to cancel subscriptions, leading to deceptive practices. One of the problematic processes was a lengthy and confusing cancellation journey called "Iliad Flow," which required multiple clicks and options to cancel. Amazon has since revised this process and must continue to simplify user journeys.
3. Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was sentenced to five years in prison for conspiring with Libyan dictator Muammar Gadhafi to finance his 2007 presidential campaign. This marked the first time a French president has been sentenced to prison. Sarkozy has a history of corruption and has been stripped of France's highest honor. He plans to appeal the decision.

VERSE: Ephesians 2:3-7 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

We were taken for a van ride to the surgeons office for a post operation consultation.
Good news, the shoulder looks good and she doesn't have to wear the sling anymore. There will be a follow-up in six weeks.

NEWS: 1. NASA is getting ready to send astronauts on a mission around the Moon called Artemis II. The astronauts will leave low-Earth orbit for the first time since 1972. The mission will last 10 days.
To get ready for the launch, the rocket and spacecraft are being prepared. They will be connected and tested at Kennedy Space Center before the launch. The launch is planned for February 5, 2026, during a specific window of time when Earth and the Moon are aligned.
2. Space Weather Probes are scientific spacecraft that study the solar wind, which is a stream of charged particles coming from the sun. The solar wind creates a magnetic bubble called the heliosphere, which protects our solar system from harmful radiation.
3. YouTube is allowing creators who were previously banned for spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and elections to come back to the platform. This is because the policies they were banned for are no longer in effect.
The parent company, Alphabet, explained that they value free speech and want to promote diverse voices on their platform, including conservative viewpoints. They want to continue allowing debate on political issues.
Essentially, YouTube is giving a second chance to creators who were banned for violating old rules. It's all about promoting free expression and different perspectives on their platform.

NEWS: 1. Charlie Kirk Memorial was a huge event attended by 200,000 people at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The service honored conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who cofounded Turning Point USA. Speakers included political figures like Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump. Erika Kirk, Charlie's widow and the new CEO of Turning Point USA, publicly forgave Kirk's shooter at the event. The memorial was considered a high-security event by the Department of Homeland Security.
2. Recently, the UK, Canada, and Australia officially recognized Palestine as a state, breaking from the US policy. This decision allows them to have a Palestinian ambassador and sign agreements with Palestine. The main reasons for this change were the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Other countries are also expected to follow suit.

REHAB: After Sunday school, worship, and an after worship meeting about changing church hours, I was on my way to see Ella. The moment the pastor said "amen," I made a beeline for the door, my stomach doing a little jig that had nothing to do with the joyful noise we'd just made. My plan was simple: church, then straight to the rehab to see Ella. But my gut had other ideas.
Instead of turning left toward the toll road, I turned right, towards home, a feeling of dread settling over me. The thought of being stuck in traffic, miles from my own bathroom, was unsettling.
My quick detour turned into an ordeal. The morning became a whirlwind of flushing toilets, a second shower, and a frantic search for clean clothes. Laundry was tossed in the washing machine. The sloshing sound of the machine uncomfortably close to the sounds coming from my guts.
I mopped the floor, a task I hadn't planned on, but one that seemed necessary after the morning's adventures. As Forrest Gump would say, "That's all I've got to say about that."
Finally, clean and comfortable, I drove to the rehab. I walked into Ella’s room, a knot of guilt forming in my stomach for being so late. But she didn't seem to notice. As we talked her eyes slowly closed, her breathing slow and steady. She was fast asleep, a peaceful expression on her face. I stood there for a moment, my hand hovering over her bed.
I bent down and kissed her a silent promise. Then, I turned around and walked out.
I didn't need to be there to watch her sleep. I needed to be home, near my own bathroom, where I could finally rest and let the day's chaos fade.
I called her several times throughout the day just to let her know how very much I miss her. The last time just to say goodnight.

VERSE: Genesis 2:4-9 CEB This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. On the day the LORD God made earth and sky— before any wild plants appeared on the earth, and before any field crops grew, because the LORD God hadn’t yet sent rain on the earth and there was still no human being to farm the fertile land, though a stream rose from the earth and watered all of the fertile land— the LORD God formed the human from the topsoil of the fertile land and blew life’s breath into his nostrils. The human came to life. The LORD God planted a garden in Eden in the east and put there the human he had formed. In the fertile land, the LORD God grew every beautiful tree with edible fruit, and also he grew the tree of life in the middle of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

NO COFFEE KLATSCH: The day had started with the promise of a quiet morning, a warm cup of coffee, and a good laugh with my friends in the community room. That was the plan, anyway. But plans have a funny way of changing. Just as I was about to head out the door, my phone buzzed with a call from Ella.
"They're moving me today," she said, her voice a little shaky. "To the physical therapy rehab."
My mind immediately shifted from coffee to her. There was no hesitation. I grabbed the bag of supplies she had ordered for this exact moment and rushed to the hospital. The world outside was of no consequence as I drove, my focus solely on getting to her side.
When I arrived, the hospital room was devoid of activity. No nurses bustled in and out, preparing her for the move. It was much quieter than I expected. I walked in, and her face lit up. I pulled a chair to her bedside while she finished her oatmeal. I began to pack her belongings, carefully folding clothes and tucking away her personal items, and the CPAP machine.
Though I had planned on joining her at the hospital this morning, this wasn't how I had pictured my day, but it was exactly where I needed to be. As I worked, a wave of gratitude washed over me. Our love, our bond—it felt so tangible and strong in that small room. The coffee could wait. Our friends would understand. In that moment, the only thing that mattered was being there for my bride, supporting her through this new step in her recovery.
BAG FULL: I was jolted awake to the insistent ring of my phone. A quick glance at the clock told me it was just past 6:30 a.m. The CPAP hose was still snug on my face, and my blackout mask was firmly in place over my eyes. Groping around in the dark, I fumbled for my phone, the hose of the CPAP machine getting in my way. It felt like an eternity before I finally got my hand on the phone, and then another few moments to figure out how to answer the call.
It was Ella, my wife. As soon as I managed to say hello, she began rattling off a list of things she needed me to bring her that day. "You know, I think I need to write these down," I mumbled, still half-asleep.
"Don't worry," she said, and I could practically hear her smile. "I'll just send you a list."
Tooth cleasers pills you'll fine a sheet of them in the drawer on my side of sink. Face cleanser sheets sheets on counters. Glass cleanser. Sweaters or shawl in one of of boxes in hall or end The bathroom. I have a light blue dress that buttons down the front and and a medium blue that of you can fine then or something like that now. I think there is a bk Lack bag. More pull ups to be safe.
I deciphered it the best that I could and packed a bag. I hope I guessed correctly.
MOVING DAY: The clock on the wall read just a quarter past one when an aide arrived with a gurney, ready to take Ella. "They'll be taking her to Sagebrook Nursing and Rehabilitation," the aide clarified, "at 901 Discovery in Cedar Park."
I followed the ambulance in my car, my heart a mix of nerves and relief. As the ambulance pulled up to the facility, I grabbed the three bags I'd packed, ready to help her get settled in.Ella was taken to room 104, a quiet space with a comfortable bed. As the nurses, Terri and Ashley, began their check-in process, I unpacked her belongings. The room was a double, but it was just for Ella at the moment. "We don't need to put two in a room just yet," the nurse explained. I neatly arranged her things in the hanging closet and the bedside cabinet, making the space feel a little more like home.
After all the paperwork was signed and I had made a careful list of everything she brought, I said my goodbyes. The physical therapist wouldn't see her until tomorrow at the earliest, so I knew she'd have some time to rest. With a final kiss, I left. I called her around five just to check-in and let her know I love her. I found that, though they wouldn't let her up to go to the bathroom, she was allowed to use a bed pan

I didn't take a Proof of Life Photo.
We are, however, alive.
Day six in hospital
COFFEE KLATSCH: Sandy(not in photo), Avis, Michelle, Joan, Grace, Suzie, Muriel, and I were at coffee this morning. I gave them an update on Ella's condition. They all wished her well and wanted to let her know she is missed.
HOSPITAL: Ella eating breakfast and ordering lunch.
TELEDOC: After visiting with the Teledoc it sounds as though they may release her from the hospital to a rehab. As I write this I am not sure to which rehab location she may go. Instant update Dr C. just said that IF insurance okays it AND IF the rehab okays it, she MAY go today.
HOSPITAL: I was at the hospital for five hours but left about three o'clock. No news about transferring her at this point. So I doubt it will happen today. In fact, since I'm at home, I hope they don't until Monday. It now appears that she may go (when she goes) to Sagebrook on Discovery in Cedar Park. I'm going to take a nap

NO NAP: I laid down to rest but ended up calling Ella to check in on her. Apparently after I left the Physical Therapist had her standing and taking a few steps. Yay!
HAPPY HOUR: I went to the community room to see what was going on. Not much. It was pretty quiet. I was asked to give an update on Ella. I told them that the hospital is ready to release her as soon as the rehab and insurance/Medicare okay the transfer. I ate a cookie and a couple of pingpong ball size meatballs for supper and then came home.

NEWS:
1. ENGLAND SWINGS: President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump completed their two-day state visit to Britain hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla. This visit marks Trump's second state visit to the palace after the first in 2019. The royal family welcomed the Trumps with a grand carriage procession and a military ceremony at Windsor Castle, followed by a formal banquet. Trump is meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer at his country residence today to discuss tariffs, as well as the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. The leaders recently signed a $42 billion technology pact involving companies like Nvidia, OpenAI, and Microsoft.
2. DODO: Colossal Biosciences in Texas has grown pigeon germ cells, a crucial step to reviving the extinct dodo bird. They plan to use genetic tweaking and museum specimens to create a dodo-like bird within the next five to seven years. The dodo, a flightless bird from Mauritius, was wiped out by humans in the 17th century.
FAMILY: Linnea, Rob, and Brandon arrived from Iowa to spend the day with Ella and me. Then they needed to head back home because Brandon has a preop appointment tomorrow.
HEALTH: Heart Rate 75 bpm, BP 119/72, 95% Oxy, Sleep 11:38 PM to 08:24 AM, 07h 37m Total, REM 00h 20m, Deep 02h 43m, Light 05h 34m, Awake 00h 09m, 100% of goal, Events/hr 0.7, Weight 282 lb, Steps 1664
VERSE: Romans 8:31-39 31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[a]
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
COMMENT: As believers, Paul urges us to have faith and trust in our salvation and in God instead of relying on our own efforts. This is a powerful reminder that our salvation is not dependent on our own abilities or works, but rather on God's grace and love for us. In a world full of sin and uncertainty, it is crucial to pay attention to Paul's words as they bring hope and assurance. Through our faith in Christ, we can find comfort and reassurance that we are saved and loved by God. Let us hold on to this truth and trust in God's plan for our lives, knowing that He will never forsake us. May Paul's encouragement inspire us to deepen our faith and reliance on God, rather than ourselves.

WEATHER:
HEALTH: Heart Rate 63 bpm, BP 119/70, 97% Oxy,
SLEEP: I was very tired when I came home from the hospital yesterday, so around four o'clock I decided to take a nap. However, I remembered that Tuesday is our regularly scheduled night to play Five Crowns with our friends. I had the bag containing the cards, score pads, and shuffler. I hung the bag outside the apartment door and sent a message on the chat line. I let the other players know that I wasn't going to play but that the game was at my door.
Now I was ready for that nap. Except I also realized that our trash hadn't been set out for collection since Sunday evening. So I emptied all of our trashcan into the kitchen trashcan and bagged it.
As I was setting the trash out for pickup I saw that someone had picked up the game bag. Since I was still awake I thought to go to the community room and let everyone know the latest about Ella. However Lucille was the only one of the usual group of players who was there. So I pulled up a chair and talked with her for a while.
It was around six when I returned home. I finally crashed landed onto the bed.
I woke from my nap about one o'clock in the morning. I checked the trashcan outside the door and it had been emptied so I brought it inside.
Now I was hungry, having missed supper. I microwaved some frozen waffles and sat down to check for any new messages. That's when I saw that Linnea, Ella's daughter, had posted that they were planning to drive down from Iowa to see her mom. They planned to leave at three thirty AM.
Though I was no longer bone weary I returned to bed. I reawakened at seven thirty. Now, we're all caught up. I'm going to take care of doing housework before going back to the hospital.
HOSPITAL: Altogether I spent about nine and a half hours at the hospital with Ella today. I went home long enough to eat and a short nap. Honest. Only about an hour.
I arrived at about nine AM. There was a steady flow of care givers. The teledoc, pt, meds, ultra sound, lunch order, etc.
The Teledoc said that the spinal tap from yesterday was clear.
They were in for another ultrasound of her shoulder this morning. So far they've eliminated everything they've tested but not found the source of the infection.
I went down to my car to retrieve my phone which I had mistakenly left there. I stopped at the hospital cafe and bought a gyro. When I got back to the room, the doctor was here. Dr. Chittireddy said Ella's temperature has been stable for 24 hours now. If she remains stable they may release her to rehab tomorrow. I don't know which rehab and where at this point. However this evening I took her temp and it had gone up to 100.3°. I called the nurse and asked them to check it. They also read 100.3°. They brought her Tylenol along with her evening pills. They are still giving her stool softener even though she had fouled the bed several times. Doesn't make sense to me. But I've never even played a doctor on TV. What should I know?
NEWS: Israel invaded Gaza City to target Hamas militants, causing a large number of Palestinians to flee the area. The United Nations reported that Israel has been accused of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Despite denial from Israel, the UN has stated that Israel has imposed harsh living conditions and caused a famine in Gaza. This has sparked a humanitarian crisis in the region.
VERSE: Luke 22:54-62 54 Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. 55 And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. 56 A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.”
57 But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said.
58 A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”
“Man, I am not!” Peter replied.
59 About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”
60 Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.
COMMENT: Today I'm not going to give my comment on the events described here. I want you to think about it for yourself. Have you ever been tested like Peter? What did you do? What honestly would you do? And what should you do?

COFFEE KLATSCH: I got up this morning at 8:00. Got dressed. Grabbed a meal replacement drink and went up to the community room to get some ice in a cup. Susie and Diana were there so I sat down and poured my drink into the ice and visited with them for a little bit. Then Grace arrived so I retold the tale I had told Susie and Diana. And about that time Ella actually called me. So I went ahead and got in the car and took off and got to the hospital.
PT: Lamont came to start her in some exercises. She is to do ten reps of each exercise four times a day.
FAMILY: John and Dawn arrived about ten this morning. They left Des Moines Iowa yesterday afternoon. They stop somewhere in Oklahoma for a short sleep in a sketchy motel. Ella and I were glad to see them and amazed that they would go to the time and effort to come all this way for about a five hour visit before driving all the way back to Des Moines so John could go to work at five o'clock in the morning Wednesday.
Ella was mostly alert and engaged in the conversation while they were here. I know she felt the love.
WHATABURGER: John, Dawn, and I took a break from the hospital while Ella went for a lumbar puncture. They wanted to go to Whataburger so I drove them to the closest one that I knew of.

HOME: I was glad to be home and intended to go straight to bed. I sent a text message to the Five Crowns players that I had set the game and equipment in a bag hanging outside my apartment door. Just because I wasn't playing didn't mean the rest of the group couldn't play. I then remembered that I hadn't set the trash out for pickup since Sunday night. I got all of our trash bagged up and set outside the door. I noticed that the game bag was gone so I went to the community room to say hi to our friends. Only Lucille was there. None of the other people showed up. I sat and talked to Lucille and Christine for a minutes then came home to finish this blog post and go to bed.

Day 3 of Ella's in hospital
SLEEP: I couldn't get to sleep until after 1 AM and woke at about 5:30 and was unable to get back to sleep. So about 3½ hours total.
BREAKFAST: I made biscuits with sausage, egg, and cheese. I made two but couldn't eat all of the second. Having learned something about the ants, the leftovers went down the disposal.
LAUNDRY: I loaded the washed and wet clothes into the wagon and made my way to the 3rd floor laundry room.
I loaded this dryer and tried to put money in but it kept rejecting the coins.
So I moved the clothes to the top dryer. It took $2.25 to start the machine. That means I'll get the first load dryer this morning and the rest will have to wait until sometime later. I think that I may have enough quarters in the car for later. However I want to be at the hospital this morning when the doctors make their rounds.
HOSPITAL: I arrived shortly before 8:30 AM. Ella had just received her breakfast tray.
PEBBLE BEACH? This is the view from her window.
OXYGEN: She had a nurse/technician? Come and check her oxygen level and said it was 100%. She has an oxygen hose under her nose.
ULTRASOUND: QA gal with an ultrasound came in to do images of her shoulder.
CALLS: John Lass called on my phone and talked to me while they were doing the ultra sound. Once they were done, I put the phone on speaker so he could talk to his mom. No sooner than John hung up I noticed Linnea was calling on Ella's phone. I answered and put it on speaker. Once she hung up I checked Ella's settings and her ringer was turned off. I turned it on.
LOSS OF CONTROL: She just started tugging at her covers. I asked what she was doing. "I'm peeing my pants." She had done more than that. They came in to change her and change bedding. At that time they took her temperature with an ordeal thermometer and she was at 103° again, which is bad. Her blood sugar was at 107 which is good.
PT: I still haven't seen the doctor. The physical therapist was here but since her fever was high he didn't want to try getting her up.
TELEDOC: The doctor finally “Arrived” by video. Ella was pretty lucid and responsive. She knew where she was and that it was Monday and September. She answered the doctor's questions although I did need to keep reminding her that the doctor was asking about current wounds, falls, or injuries not ones from twenty or thirty years ago.
MEALS: Ella ate most of her breakfast and most of her lunch. I had a meal replacement for my lunch. She went to sleep after lunch. I left for home about one o'clock.
DRYER: The last load of laundry in the dryer. When it is done it will be my nap time.
DRY: Clothes not folded but I don't care I've got to nap.
RING RING: at 3:45 I received a call from Dr. Chittireddy who asked my permission to give Ella a unit of blood. It appears that there had been slight bleeding from the shoulder surgery. This appears to be unrelated to the undiscovered infection. I gave permission. Since I was awake I went back to the hospital.
VISITORS: Heather arrived at the hospital just after Ella supper arrived. Ella ate some of the meat and broccoli and all of the cheese cake. She was still eating when Adam and Leigha arrived. All of us, including Ella, had a nice conversation. It was nice to see her interacting in a normal way. It was nearly 8 when we ask left.
MORE LAUNDRY: I folded the white clothes before going to bed.

HOUSEWORK: I woke at 8 AM after 8 hours of sleep. I realized I had not taken my bedtime pills which include diuretics. I usually get up every two hours to go to the bathroom. This morning I also discovered that an army of ants were feeding on the lunch we had left on the counter. With a lot of smacking on the counter and whacking of ants. I threw the food, ants and all, down the garbage disposal. I then started a load of dishes in the dishwasher and a load of clothes in the washing machine. Then after breakfast I went to the hospital.
ASCENSION SEXTON CEDAR PARK HOSPITAL: I arrived about quarter to ten this morning. Ella had already had breakfast of eggs, yogurt, and coffee. I brought her CPAP machine. She had told me that her phone charger was in the case. It was - but not the cord. Adam and Leigha came and Leigha went down to my car and brought a phone card from the car. I met the hospital doctor Dr. Chiiireddy. I showed her Jenny's text from last night about getting a CT scan of Ella's shoulder. The doctor texted Jenny the following.
Shortly thereafter another nurse arrived with an ultrasound to install a picline for the tests.
Ella's lunch arrived and Adam and Leigha left. I realized that Ella had no dentures. She ate some green beans, mashed potatoes, cake, and grapes. Now she is resting as we await the CT and MRI.
BACK FROM MRI: When they wheeled her out for the MRI I went home to get her dentures and reading glasses. I had just barely returned to her empty room when Kara called. I was talking to her when they brought Ella, bed, and all back to the room.
Linnea called and talked to her mom and I got a call from Mary (Ella's sister) and Jim. I talked to Mary until Linnea finished talking to Ella. I then put Mary on speaker so she and Ella could talk.
RESULTS … SORT OF: The MRI went well. The CT scan not so much. The doctor ordered two CTs with dye. The dye didn't enter her blood stream. So those CTs that they got may have to be redone. She is sleeping again.
CASE MANAGEMENT: Liz from Case Management brought in the following document::
The patient (or individual acting on patient's behalf) has been informed, as part of the discharge planning process, of their freedom to choose among participating (Medicare) providers of post-hospital services. Based on patient's post-acute needs a list of area home care agencies, skilled nursing/ short term, IRF, LTCH rehabilitation facilities that are available to the patient that participate with the (Medicare program) payer in the geographic area requested by the patient has been presented to the patient (or individual acting on the patient's behalf).
James was here to put a mid line in her right arm.
At the same time Shawntavia was here to check her vitals.
NITE ALL: at eight o'clock I kissed Ella good night and headed home. Once here I emptied the washing machine and started a load of dark clothes to wash overnight. I ate a banana and drank aV8 to take my bedtime pills.

VERSE: Matthew 18:10-14 CEB
“Be careful that you don’t look down on one of these little ones. I say to you that their angels in heaven are always looking into the face of my Father who is in heaven.
What do you think? If someone had one hundred sheep and one of them wandered off, wouldn’t he leave the ninety-nine on the hillsides and go in search for the one that wandered off? If he finds it, I assure you that he is happier about having that one sheep than about the ninety-nine who didn’t wander off. In the same way, my Father who is in heaven doesn’t want to lose one of these little ones.

2025 September 13 Saturday in Leander and Cedar Park - called 911 for Ella
Proof of Life Photo
Ella is alive but really out of it. The drugs during and after surgery have left her dazed and confused.
COFFEE KLATSCH: Grace, Suzie, Muriel, Dianna, Sandy, and I were at coffee this morning. When I told Ella that I was going to coffee, she said, “What coffee?” And I replied, “To the coffee we go to every morning.” I'm concerned about her cognitive function. I've asked both of her at home nurses about and been told that it may take ten to twelve days for the mind to clear. She is taking hydrocodone + acetaminophen every four to six hours. I was concerned that she was over-dosing herself so I'm keeping those pills in my pocket now. It's almost like having a newborn to take care of. I'm not getting much quality sleep.

LUNCH: sirloin steak, acorn squash, and mixed vegetables for lunch. Ella are party of the squash before I called 911.
911: Ella's mental state has continued to deteriorate. I was trying to ask her if she had taken her regular everyday pills this morning. She just stared slack jawed at the pill box. I asked if she understood what I was asking. I received no response. I called Kamal Vats, our primary care. She said to take Ella to the ER. I was unable to get Ella moving so I called 911.
The paramedics loaded her into an ambulance and took her to Ascension hospital in Cedar Park. She is running a fever of 103°. They did an x-ray and started an antibiotic. They gave her a Tylenol IV also. They used a catheter to collect a urine sample to check for a possible UTI. She is far from being her normal self but she is much more lucid than this morning. It is now 4:30 PM and they checked her temperature as 98.2.
They just took her for a CT scan and left me sitting in an empty room. There was no sign of a UTI.
After the CT scan they connected with a doctor and it had been decided to keep her overnight. They are puzzled because she presents as having an infection but they can't find one. It's shortly after 9 and I just got home. Arik and Jenny brought us hamburgers, fries, and drinks.
They moved Ella to room 2124. I waited until they had her settled in and then I came home.
Every indication is that she has an infection - but they haven't found it yet.
Keep us in your prayers.

1. A 22-year-old suspect named Tyler Robinson was arrested for fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. He was found with a rifle and online messages related to antifascism. The suspect's family helped identify him, as he had expressed opposition to Kirk's beliefs. This incident raises concerns about violence in political and campus settings.
2. NATO is getting more defense equipment from France, Denmark, Germany, and the UK because Russian drones entered Polish airspace. Poland and Latvia have also restricted their airspace. The UK has imposed 100 sanctions on Russia's military and oil industries. Meanwhile, Russia and Belarus are having a big military drill together.
3. President Trump plans to send National Guard and federal resources to Memphis to help with crime issues. The city has the highest crime rate in the country. The mayor and governor support this decision and the military may be involved if needed. The mayor is committed to making the community safer and better.
4. Sushila Karki is the first female chief justice of Nepal who is now temporarily leading the country due to protests against corruption. She stood up against powerful interests. Despite lacking political experience, she is seen as the right person to handle the current crisis in Nepal.

VERSE: Matthew 19:13-15 CEB
Some people brought children to Jesus so that he would place his hands on them and pray. But the disciples scolded them. “Allow the children to come to me,” Jesus said. “Don’t forbid them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people like these children.” Then he blessed the children and went away from there.

COMMENT: These verses teach us that Jesus values humility over pride. He welcomes those who are humble, like children, and rejects those who are arrogant.

NEWS:
1. KIRK ASSASSIN?: The FBI published photos yesterday of a potential suspect in the murder of Charlie Kirk. A college-aged shooter wearing sunglasses, a baseball cap, and a shirt with an American flag was seen on surveillance footage at Utah Valley University. A hunting rifle was found near the campus where a debate event was being held. Cartridges next to the rifle had political messages on them, but the motive is still unknown.
2. Jair Bolsonaro, the former President of Brazil, has been convicted of planning a military coup to remain in power after losing an election. He has been sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison. This decision has caused major protests in Brazil, with some supporting Bolsonaro and others opposing him. Bolsonaro's lawyers may try to appeal the sentence due to his health issues. The United States has criticized the ruling and imposed sanctions on Brazil in response.
3. HOW A BOT THAT! Albania has appointed an AI bot named Diella as a minister to manage public procurement and award government contracts to private companies. Diella is designed to be incorruptible and will help make sure that public tenders are free of corruption in the country. This move aims to improve Albania's reputation as a country known for corruption and to facilitate its accession to the European Union by 2030.

COMMENTARY: God has the power to make enemies become friends with each other. If we please God and seek reconciliation with Him, He can change the hearts of those who dislike us and make them our friends. 2025 September 11 Thursday PATRIOTS DAY in Leander
Proof of Life Photo Ella is still spending most of her time sleeping.
COFFEE KLATSCH: This morning, Sandy, Jo, Dianna, Michelle, Joan, Grace, Suzie, Muriel, Maria, Ricky, and I gathered for our daily Coffee Klatsch. As we sipped on our warm cups of coffee, we engaged in a discussion about the tragic events of 9/11/01. We shared our memories and emotions from that day and reflected on how it has changed our lives. The conversation then shifted to other topics as we discussed our upcoming doctor's appointments and shared our common phobias. It was a comforting and supportive atmosphere as we laughed and commiserated with each other. This Coffee Klatsch not only provided us with a sense of camaraderie but also allowed us to share our thoughts and fears openly. It was a reminder of the importance of friendship and how coming together over a cup of coffee can bring people closer.

WE DIDN'T: We did not go to Over The Hill Gang today because Ella wasn't up to it and I felt I couldn't leave her alone. Ever since the surgery her mental faculties are noticeably less acute. She didn't host bingo tonight either which is something she has done for years. Just didn't feel up to it.
WEATHER: Leander, TexasAIR QUALITY ALERT: Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued an Ozone Action Day for the Austin area for Thursday, September 11, 2025. Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable for producing high levels of ozone air pollution in the area on Thursday.
NEWS:
1. A BULLET IS NOT A BALLOT. Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist, was shot and killed while speaking at an event in Utah. The suspect is still at large, but two people were briefly detained. The campus where the event took place is closed, and classes have been canceled. Kirk was a well-known figure with millions of followers on social media. The shooting happened during a Q&A session about gun violence, with thousands of people in attendance. This incident is part of a troubling trend of attacks on political figures in the US, including an attempt on President Trump's life and the assassination of a state representative and her husband.
2. MARTIAN LIFE? NASA's Perseverance rover found rocks on Mars that suggest signs of past life. The rocks contain minerals that on Earth are often created by living organisms. Further analysis is needed to confirm this discovery. The rover has been exploring a crater that was once a lake bed. NASA's plan to study these samples further is delayed due to costs.
3. “BLOCK EVERYTHING” France deployed 80,000 police to stop protests against President Macron. The protests were against a proposal to cut public spending, and the new prime minister, Sébastien Lecornu, was chosen from Macron's inner circle. The protests were onsimilar to the "Yellow Vest" movement, which led to changes in government policies.
4. TOASTER TAXI? Amazon's Zoox has entered the robotaxi market in the U.S., competing against Waymo. Zoox offers rides in a unique rectangular vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals. They aim to provide a better solution than traditional cars. Zoox is starting in Las Vegas and plans to expand to San Francisco. Waymo has a head start with over 10 million paid rides in five cities. Tesla is also testing robotaxis in Austin, Texas with human supervisors.
5. Israel carried out an airstrike in Qatar targeting Hamas leaders, killing five members but not senior leaders. This is the first known attack by Israel on Qatari soil. The attack came after Hamas met with Qatar to discuss a US-proposed ceasefire. Israel claimed the attack was retaliation for a previous gun attack by Hamas in Jerusalem. Israel also called for an evacuation of Gaza City before a possible ground operation.

COMMENT: Your Eternal Worth. Scripture does not know of any human life which is so commonplace that it is not valuable enough to become eternal, and this is its high optimism. Nothing is too much for Scripture. Since every person is known by God by name, and since every person exists in time in the presence of the God who is judgment and salvation, every person is a person of eternity, and not just the noble spirits of history.

COFFEE KLATSCH: This morning Ella and I were a little late going for coffee because I had to help dress her. With her arm in a sling and the medicine ball around her neck it was just easier to push her in the wheelchair. We weren't there long before she took herself home by “walking” while sitting. Dianna, Michelle, Suzie, Joan, Grace, Jo, and Rea were already there.
NURSE: A home health nurse arrived at our apartment door at about 11:30 this morning. She checked Ella's range of motion and gave her some simple exercises to do. Things like turning her hand over and back and over and back and wiggling her fingers. She's also to do some slight shoulder shrugs.

LUNCH: I made a quick stew from canned vegetables. However, she ate very little of it and wanted an egg salad sandwich instead. I gave her the ingredients and had her make her own. I never get the mayo correct to her liking.
WEATHER: I had no reason to go outside today. So, I didn't. The weather inside was nice.
TRANSPORTATION: I will have a chemical stress test this Friday. Until Ella mentioned it, I never thought about the fact that I wouldn't be allowed to drive myself home from the hospital. She hasn't driven in years and certainly is not able at the moment because of the new shoulder. I sent out a “Help!” text message to our six kids in the area. It has worked out that my daughters-in-law will take care of me. Jenny will take me to the appointment and Leigha will bring me home. My sons married well.

VERSE: Hebrews 13:15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
COMMENT: Through Jesus, believers are called to offer a continual sacrifice of praise to God. This sacrifice is not an animal or material offering, but rather the fruit of our lips openly professing his name. This act of praise and worship is a way for us to honor and glorify God, acknowledging his greatness and goodness in our lives. However, true worship goes beyond words and also includes action. We are reminded to not only offer praise, but to also do good and share with others. These acts of kindness and generosity are pleasing to God and are considered sacrifices in his eyes. By following these instructions, we not only honor God with our words, but also with our deeds, showing our love for him and for others. In this way, we can live out our faith in a tangible and meaningful way, offering ourselves as living sacrifices to God.

2025 September 09 Tuesday in Leander and Cedar Park, Ella's surgery
Proof of Life Photo
SURGERY: We arrived at the hospital at 5:30 this morning, Ella filled out more paperwork.Basically the same paperwork she had done yesterday, and then after a short sit in the waiting area, we were escorted to a room where she could get changed. I played a little stripper music for her while she changed.
Here she is in her hi-fashion gown.
Ella is sleeping while waiting to be wheeled into surgery.
WEDDING RING: Ella was unable to remove her ring. It had to come off because it was on the same side as the shoulder they were replacing. Any swelling in her hand could have cut off the circulation and possible loss of her finger. They cut the ring off to save the finger.
POST SURGERY: Shortly after 11:00 doctor Szerlip called to tell me that the surgery went well and that she would probably be ready to go by 12:00. At 12:45 I knocked on the door from the waiting room. I was told she was still being medicated. At 1:00 I got a call from the hospital telling me the same thing. They're trying to get the pain under control and it'll be another 30 minutes or so.
At 1:50 I was called back to recovery. She is very tired. She said that the pain was intense.

BREAKFAST: This morning, I decided to surprise my bride and make French toast for breakfast. As I cooked, the sweet smell of cinnamon and vanilla filled the kitchen. Once the French toast was ready, I plated it and set it on the table, along with a bottle of maple syrup and a jar of strawberry preserves. My bride wasted no time in drowning her French toast in the rich, sticky syrup while I opted for a more fruity topping with the preserves. To add a touch of decadence, I also added a dollop of whipped cream on top of my French toast. It was a simple yet special moment that made our morning even brighter.

WEATHER: It had reached 85° by team o'clock this morning. Then the rains came in and it quickly dropped to 75°. Though the rain ended the cloudcover remained and the temperature never rose past that early high.
LUNCH: The lunch we had today was nothing fancy, just a simple meal of mac and cheese and green beans. However, I wanted to add a little something extra, so I cut some pork belly into one inch cubes and deep fried them. Along with our main dish, we also had a couple of tuna fish snack packs. I decided to have one, but my bride Ella turned it down. Despite the simplicity of the meal, it was satisfying and hit the spot. The mac and cheese was creamy and comforting, while the green beans added a touch of freshness. The fried pork belly gave a crispy and savory element to the meal, making it a perfect addition. Though Ella may have declined the tuna snack pack, she still enjoyed the mac and cheese and green beans just as much as I did.

COFFEE KLATSCH: ?, Muriel, Michelle, Joan, Grace, Suzie, Val, Diana, Ella and I were at coffee this morning.
BREAKFAST: Yes, I am a country boy, born and raised in a small town where everyone knews each other and the pace of life was slow and simple. And nothing says country breakfast like grits, sausage gravy, and biscuits. The only thing missing was saltpork or thickcut bacon. It's a meal that brings back fond memories of my childhood, waking up to the smell of southern comfort food cooking in the kitchen. As I stood over the stove, stirring the creamy grits and browning the sausage for the gravy, I felt a deep sense of satisfaction knowing that I am carrying on the tradition of my ancestors. And when I finally sat down to enjoy my hearty breakfast, with warm flaky biscuits smothered in rich gravy, I was reminded that sometimes the simplest things in life can bring the greatest joy. Being a country boy means embracing my roots and finding joy in the simple pleasures, like cooking up a delicious country breakfast that warms both my stomach and my heart..

NEWS: Vaccine mandates are rules that say kids must get vaccinated before they can go to school. The first one was in Boston in 1827, and by 1980, all states had similar rules. Florida is trying to get rid of vaccine mandates, which could make it the first state to do so.

WEATHER: it was still 100° at 9:00 PM.
THAT WAS INTERESTING: This morning I discovered that one of my hearing aids wasn't charged. It was dead. I tried turning it off. I was squeezing the tiny switch so hard that I felt like Homer Simpson choking Bart. But nothing worked. I called the hearing aid place and they told me to bring it in. Approximately 30 miles round trip to have the tech turn it off and back on. Really? Really! $65 dollar office charge because it's no longer under warranty. Okay, to be fair, he also cleaned them and replaced the domes. But still.
Then it was time for Ella's preop visit to the doctor. We've been there once so I wasn't comfortable just getting in the car and going. Fortunately the address was on the calendar so I brought up the map app and hit start. It gave me turn by turn directions which seemed to take us an odd direction - but hey - Google is smarter than me. We reached our destination. I know we did because my phone said, “You have arrived.” One slight problem - this wasn't the doctor's office. This was where Ella had her MRI and C/T scans. She called the doctor to explain we would be a little late but that we were on our way. The correct address was entered and we followed my phone's directions that got us to the right place. Not even trusting myself to find my way home I simply told the navigation app, “Take me home.” We were about halfway home when Ella's phone rang. It was the doctor's office. She had left her purse in the exam room. Now I had to thread my way through construction zones to find my way off of the expressway and get turned back toward the doctor's office - without my phone's guidance. Ella brought it up on her phone and gave me directions. Directions such as saying, “Oh, you could have turned there.” Or silently pointing straight ahead. We made it with only one U turn. But now it was the beginning of rush hour and we were in the middle of Austin. I told my phone to take me home and use the toll road. Though it was still slow going and bumper to bumper, I felt it had to be faster than taking the side streets as people were fleeing the city on their way home from work. That was interesting. How was your day?
BINGO: Ella's bingo was interrupted this evening by one of the residents informing everyone that the women's restroom was smeared with $h!t. Just another public service announcement, I guess.

VERSE James 5:13-16 NRSVUE
[13] Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. [14] Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. [15] The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up, and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. [16] Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.

COMMENTARY: The passage of James 5:13-16 serves as a practical guide for believers on how to live a life of prayer. It emphasizes the importance of maintaining a consistent connection with God through prayer and praise, regardless of one's circumstances. By following this guidance, believers can cultivate a deeper relationship with God and find strength, comfort, and guidance through their prayers.

2025 September 01 Monday Labor Day in Leander, Liberty Hill, and Cedar Park
Proof of Life Photo
COFFEE KLATSCH: Muriel, Jo, Dianna, Michelle, Avis, Joan, Grace, Suzie, Val, Ella, and I were at coffee this morning.
LABOR DAY: Labor Day began with early labor movement parades and strikes in the late 19th century to honor workers, with the first celebration in New York City in 1882. Labor activist groups successfully lobbied for its recognition, leading to President Grover Cleveland signing legislation in 1894, making Labor Day a federal holiday to celebrate workers' achievements and contributions to the nation.
BREAKFAST: For breakfast I made pancakes and eggs. I always “doctor” the pancake mix by adding eggs, oil, and vanilla to make a richer and fluffier cake. I also cook them under a lid too capture the steam and cook them a little quicker.
